In B Movie you will roleplay as characters from the 1950’s, but you and your co-players are real people with real bodies. You will take part in dramatic scenes where tension rises and falls, to fully embrace this experience you should be comfortable with touching and engaging strangers in intense interactions. You will have methods to calibrate and control your own play and can always de-escalate or opt out of any situation that is not for you. We ask our participants to be brave enough to explore their own limits and to trust that others will use the provided tools to state their limits in return.
You could experience real stress. The movie making process is constrained by time and budget, and the characters have real skin in the game: If they don’t make it, their careers are over. Get ready to be plotted against, yelled at or even romanced in a moment of mutual creative heat. The 1950s was not a very nice time for minorities. Some of the characters will be written with inherent bigotry, and you might witness, be asked to play on, or be subject to diegetic oppression. We will give you time to negotiate these subjects during the workshop and ways to calibrate or avoid them during the experience.
B Movie is a larp that will deal with a number of serious issues and may contain some adult themes. Intimacy – if it happens – and violence will be realistically simulated. Whilst participants will always be in control of their own bodies and will have methods to calibrate and control their own play, they may be invited to participate in or witness scenes played out by others. These may include, but not be limited to, sexual activity, violence, drug taking, and rock’n’roll.
Documentation is part of the experience. Although it is possible to opt out of much of the filming by picking a backstage character, we can’t guarantee absolutely you won’t be in the background of videos or group shots. If being visible in post-larp materials crosses your comfort zone, perhaps this larp isn’t for you?
There will be mandatory workshopping and discussion on the above themes before the larp to ensure that activities are simulated safely and well calibrated. You always choose who to touch. You will always have control over who touches you. You can always leave any scene at any time. There will be a space outside the play area where you can take a break from the fiction as needed.
All genders and sexualities are welcome to sign up for and play at this larp. You are welcome to crossplay.
Real alcohol will be available, but any participant deemed too intoxicated to participate safely and responsibly will be removed from play.
Not every larp is for every person. The best way to figure out if this larp is for you, is to consider whether you would be comfortable playing on the themes above? Are you comfortable being filmed? Are you able to play on serious themes without resorting to comedy? If the answer is ‘no’ to any of these we’d urge you not to sign up.
